We spent the weekend with a group of 12 people at Lake Katchess. It was an old-school car camping trip: no exotic backcountry survival gear and no snobbiness about beer in cans. The lake is located in the mountains about 15 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass. It was just far enough out of the way that most of us had no cell phone reception, much to the chagrin of our friends camping at Denny Creek, who had hoped to hook up with our group on Saturday.
